Ipe wood (or Bois Ipe for our French clientele) is a very dense and hard wood, typically growing in tropical South and Central America.  It is found in a wide variety of sites ranging from marshes and riverbanks to high ridge tops. Ipe trees may grow to 140 feet in height with trunk diameter of up to 6 feet. It is one of the tallest trees of the Amazon region.
